Implement two HSRP groups on a single VLAN so each router is Active for one group and Standby for the other. Two hosts split default gateways across the two virtual IPs for deterministic load-sharing with redundancy.
Learning objectives Configure two HSRP groups on the same LAN for load-sharing Make R1 Active for group 1 (VIP 10.0.10.254) and R2 Active for group 2 (VIP 10.0.10.253) Ensure deterministic elections using priority and preempt Verify HSRP state across both routers and host reachability to the correct virtual gateways Recognize and troubleshoot mismatched group/VIP or missing preempt issues Troubleshooting focus If one group never forms, check matching group numbers and identical virtual IP on both routers. If the wrong router is Active, confirm priority values and that preempt is enabled. If a host cannot reach its gateway, ensure the host default route points to the correct HSRP VIP for its group.
